This is based on my mini series called Questions. The rules are you ask whatever questions you want and I will make a mini post/article and answer it. So here was the question that was asked:
Question: How do you clean silver jewelry without buying a fancy jewelry cleaning unit? I need to get rid of the tarnish.
Answer: Use toothpaste, an old toothbrush or soft cloth and water. scrub lightly and rinse well. Only use white toothpaste, works well.

If it's plain (no engraved, darkened designs), you can put it in a foil lined pan- shiny side up, pour boiling water over it, & put in a tablespoon of baking soda. Rinse w/clean water & dry w/a soft cloth. This is a great, cheap way to clean silver.

Heat some water just short of a boil in a stainless steel pot. Add some loosely crumpled aluminium foil and a few tablespoons of baking soda. Drop in the silver. If it's severely tarnished, might have to repeat

Silver jewelry can be easily cleaned at home. Simply soak the piece in warm soapy water for a few minutes, then rub it with a soft cloth or brush.
Good luck,

thanks for the great post and practical tips! i have a large collection of silver jewelries and cleaning them have been sort of a problem for me. the warm soapy water are effective for most of the jewelries but for some severely tarnished silver pieces, they just don’t work at all. i might try the other tips mentioned though – hope they work!
